Title: Eddy Current Testing of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer
Abstract:

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) is widely used in aerospace and other fields thanks to its excellent performance. Eddy current testing (ECT) is a promising technology for ensuring quality and safety of CFRP structure. A finite element model for simulating ECT of CFRP has been developed and utilized as a powerful tool for studying the underlying physics behind the testing as well as designing and optimizing eddy current (EC) probes. Characteristics of EC distributions both in plies and in the depth direction in unidirectional CFRP and multidirectional CFRP structures have been investigated. Methods of detecting fiber breakage and fiber waviness have been proposed, making use of the anisotropic property of the material. Vertical EC method has been proposed for testing delamination.
